Summary

An Operator in the Norwegian sector had a well which was a candidate for first phase P&A. The well had low reservoir pressure, i.e. well on vacuum. Among other options, the customer considered and selected ThermaSet to solve their challenge.

Below, you get more insight into this case, and you may download your copy of the case study, which also includes details about how Wellcem implemented the solution and most importantly - the results achieved for the operator company.

The Challenge

The well was a candidate for first phase P&A with the following challenges:

  • Low reservoir pressure (max 1900 psi) - well on vacuum
  • Pre-maturely set plug (3rd party product) in tubing – TOP at 137 mMD. Possible communication with reservoir- Via A annulus and from annulus through GLV in SPM to tubing and down to perforated interval
  • Questionable tubing integrity. Several pills of ThermaTek and CaCO3 were pumped in the well to plug the reservoir – No success
  • Possible accumulation of CaCO3 particles around SPM.

The customers' options

  • Resins

Why did they choose to cooperate with Wellcem?

After several failed attempts of P&A  With several different type of materials. Wellcem Resin system was chosen to solve the problem. After several attempts access to the wellbore was limited via a small orifice (SPM). A resin system without filler was pumped through the SPM and placed across the reservior section and isolated the well.
